
MON AMIE
Set in the backdrop of late-1940s Canada, Mon Amie is a coming-of-age story about Luke Paskel, a nine-year-old French Canadian immigrant who moves to a small Ukrainian community in the prairies. The only francophone, and smallest in his class, the other children ostracize him. Utterly alone, Luke develops a fascination for the class outcast, a Ukrainian-Jewish immigrant named Yaakov Melinsky. Bigger than the others, and viewed with contempt for being Jewish, Yaakov is left in social isolation. Without a word of understanding between them, an unlikely friendship forms, as Luke and Yaakov tackle the trials and tribulations of childhood, set against the backdrop of small-town life during a demanding decade of global transformation
